Make Sure You Buy Quality Rain Boots

By Patty Goff

Having the right shoe for the right moment is vital. Many people wear rain boots to protect their feet against the wetness after and during raining seasons. They are higher and larger than normal shoes and some even go as high as the calves. Many of these boots have spats or gaiters that help to keep the water out.

Spats or spatter guards are used outdoors that cover the instep and the ankle so to prevent the water from trickling down the leg and into the ankle opening of the shoe. A gaiter on the other hand is worn over the lower pants leg and the shoe and is generally worn as protective equipment. Spats were very common in the late 19th and early 20th century and were worn more by men then woman.

Another well liked one is the Falcon short boot but unfortunately it only comes in black. The length reaches midway up the calf and has two buckles. The first one is at the top just under the lip of the edge while the second lies just on the ankle. They have a low heel with thick soles and a diamond appearance to them.

Gaiters come in different lengths either high cut or low cut. The high cuts reach the top of the calf and are perfect for walking in thick bushes or tall grassy terrains. These are considered to have the best protection against rain, snow and even puddles. They are a bit more expensive and do not have a very good ventilation system.

The Steve Madden Women's Dreench boot will let one splash around in the puddles with no chance of getting wet. They have a round closed toe with two buckles and a back zipper. It has a one inch heel so any one will feel comfortable walking in them without the worry of slipping or twisting an ankle. Their colors are either black or green with many different sizes to choose from.

A great boot that one can wear that is both very warm and waterproof is the Timberland Woman's Chillberg boot. It unfortunately only comes in black but will keep ones feet cozy with unbelievable comfort. They are a slide on moccasin toe and are synthetic fleece lined with a removable anti fatigue foot bed. The heights of the boot can vary depending on the size.

In Ireland they are normally black but some tend to be olive green. As there are many farms in the country most of the shoes have steel capped toes for protection against the machinery that are used. They have been called a few different names there as well but either topboot or waterboot are more commonly used.

All the models come in different colors and can be worn by men, woman and children. They also come in different heights depending on the person's preference. The children's tend to come in light weight which allows them to move easier but the adults come in both light and heavy weight.
